THE EXHIBITION EXPLORES THE EVOLUTION OF INFORMATION AND ITS IMPACT ON CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY THROUGH CHONG’S DISTINCTIVE ARTISTIC APPROACH.
Singapore Art Museum (SAM) has unveiled Heman Chong: This is a dynamic list and may never be able to satisfy particular standards for completeness, the first major survey exhibition by the prolific Singaporean artist Heman Chong. The exhibition, which runs from 10 May to 17 August 2025, features over 50 works, including new commissions, offering fresh insights into Chong’s artistic practice and conceptual explorations.
The exhibition’s title, inspired by Wikipedia’s terms and conditions, reflects Chong’s fascination with how information is continuously reshaped in the digital era. Spanning nine thematic rooms, the showcase revisits canonical works and post-conceptual gestures that examine the intersections of art, geopolitics, and the structures underpinning the modern networked society.
Chong’s works, dating from the early 2000s to the present, traverse multiple mediums, including text, images, performance, and interactive installations. The exhibition highlights his use of everyday objects—such as name cards, books, newspapers, and photographs of public-accessible spaces—to provoke discussions on the contradictions of information dissemination in contemporary culture. His signature wit and thought-provoking themes challenge visitors to reconsider the ways in which knowledge is created and consumed.
The exhibition serves as a reflection on how information is framed and reinterpreted over time. By integrating familiar materials into his artistic narratives, Chong invites audiences to critically engage with the mechanisms that shape perception in an increasingly digitised world. SAM’s latest exhibition further cements Chong’s reputation as one of Singapore’s most influential contemporary artists, demonstrating his continued relevance in today’s cultural discourse.
