MELAKA, Malaysia. – Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Favoriot, a leading Malaysian IoT company, have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Cybersecurity solutions through academic-industry collaboration.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed this week, establishes a framework for joint research, professional certification programmes, and the creation of new applications. Central to this partnership is the launch of the UTeM-Favoriot Collaboration Lab, which will serve as a hub for experimentation and innovation aligned with Malaysia’s National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap.

“This collaboration bridges the gap between academia and industry by fostering the growth of future-ready talent,” said Dr. Mazlan Abbas, CEO and Co-Founder of Favoriot. “We’re proud to play a role in shaping Malaysia’s digital economy through this initiative.”

The initiative is designed to provide UTeM students and faculty access to real-world industry insights, while enabling Favoriot to tap into academic research capabilities. Together, they aim to nurture a new generation of engineers and technologists skilled in ethical AI deployment and data-driven innovation.

Malaysia’s National AI Roadmap, launched to guide the country’s transformation into a digitally driven economy, places strong emphasis on talent development and cross-sector cooperation. The Favoriot-UTeM collaboration embodies these objectives by combining academic rigour with industry relevance.

The partnership is also expected to result in commercial applications of AI and IoT technologies that address national and regional challenges in sectors such as manufacturing, smart cities, and cybersecurity resilience.

By aligning academic curricula with evolving industry needs, both parties hope to set a benchmark for impactful education-industry partnerships in Southeast Asia.
