The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore commemorated Vesak 2025 with a Dhamma Sermon held at the Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist Temple on 10 May 2025. The event was organised under the spiritual guidance of Ven K. Rathanananda Nayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent of the temple, with the sermon delivered by Ven Dr. K. Gunerathana Thero, Religious Advisor to the Mahakaruna Society and resident monk at Lankaramaya Temple.

In his sermon, Ven. Gunerathana Thero emphasised the universal values of Vesak, highlighting it as a time for inner reflection and renewed commitment to the Buddha’s teachings. He noted that such teachings are particularly relevant in today’s world, where global peace and harmony face growing challenges.

The commemoration also paid tribute to the late Hon. Lakshman Kadirgamar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, for his significant role in advocating for the recognition of Vesak as a day of international observance at the United Nations.

More than 100 members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community attended the event, alongside representatives from the Singapore Sinhala Buddhist Association and devotees from diverse backgrounds. Light refreshments were served after the sermon, encouraging fellowship and unity among attendees.

In celebration of Vesak week, the Sri Lankan High Commission premises were decorated with colourful Buddhist flags, Vesak lanterns, and festive ornaments, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
