Ambassador of Chile highlights Pacific Alliance–Singapore Free Trade Agreement as a key pillar for deeper regional integration and sustainable economic growth.

Singapore – The Pacific Alliance–Singapore Free Trade Agreement (PASFTA) was celebrated on 3 May 2025 in a ceremony attended by Her Excellency Tamara Lisi Villanueva Fernandez, Ambassador of Chile to Singapore. The event marked a key milestone in the growing cooperation between Singapore and the Pacific Alliance, which comprises Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.

In her remarks, Ambassador Villanueva Fernandez described PASFTA as “a strategic bridge between Latin America and Southeast Asia—one that deepens economic integration, promotes innovation and sustainable development, and positions Chile and the region as dynamic partners in a more connected and inclusive global economy.”

The celebration served not only as a formal recognition of the agreement’s entry into force but also as a platform to explore avenues for expanding bilateral trade, investment, and digital cooperation. Business leaders, diplomats, and trade officials from both regions engaged in discussions focused on leveraging the agreement to unlock opportunities in sectors such as technology, sustainability, food innovation, and logistics.

PASFTA, which came into effect earlier in 2025, eliminates tariffs on a wide range of goods, facilitates services and investment flows, and enhances regulatory cooperation. For Chile and its Pacific Alliance partners, the agreement with Singapore signifies an outward-looking strategy to diversify trade beyond traditional markets. For Singapore, it consolidates its position as a gateway to Asia for Latin American economies.
