A special concert combined culture and conservation to support WWF’s Ocean & Mangrove Project in Southeast Asia
SINGAPORE, 22 May 2025 – In an inspiring blend of culture and conservation, Nature Sessions – Mangrove Edition was held at The Plume, Pan Pacific, showcasing the rich musical heritage of Costa Rica while supporting WWF’s Ocean & Mangrove Project in Southeast Asia. The concert, a collaborative effort between the Embassy of Costa Rica in Singapore and global conservation partners, featured acclaimed Costa Rican pianist Manuel Obregón and Grammy Award-winning percussionist Tapado Vargas.
Hosted by His Excellency Víctor Hugo Rojas, Ambassador of Costa Rica to Singapore, the event highlighted the Central American nation’s enduring commitment to sustainability through music and public engagement. Set against an intimate natural-inspired setting, the evening invited guests to experience the harmony between sound and environment, drawing attention to the urgent need to protect coastal ecosystems across the region.

Obregón, a pioneering figure in both music and environmental advocacy, has received multiple accolades for his contributions to culture and conservation. His performance, alongside Tapado Vargas, wove traditional Costa Rican rhythms with contemporary arrangements in an immersive sonic journey inspired by mangrove forests and marine life.
The event was more than a concert—it was a platform for diplomatic engagement, cross-cultural dialogue, and collective action. Attendees included diplomats, environmentalists, musicians, and members of the public, all united by a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
This edition of Nature Sessions not only raised awareness for the WWF’s regional conservation efforts but also reaffirmed the role of the arts in inspiring sustainable action across borders.
