New initiative urges F&B businesses across Singapore to spotlight sustainable and nutritious bean dishes.
SINGAPORE, 30 May 2025 — Singapore’s renowned culinary scene is embracing a new ingredient spotlight with the official launch of the #BeansOnTheMenu Singapore campaign. Announced at the Pulses 25 convention, the year-long initiative (May 2025 – April 2026) is spearheaded by the Global Pulse Confederation (GPC), Singapore Tourism Board (STB), and international advocacy group Beans is How.
The campaign encourages hotels, cafés, restaurants, schools, and hospitals to incorporate at least one clearly labelled pulse-based dish on their menus. In doing so, participating food service providers will also commit to tracking uptake and sharing their experiences, helping to raise awareness of the environmental and nutritional benefits of pulses — a category that includes beans, lentils, and dried peas.
The initiative made its debut at the Stakeholder Roundtable during Pulses 25, a premier global event for the pulses industry held in Singapore. Attendees included hospitality leaders, policymakers, and sustainability advocates, all contributing to a shared vision of a healthier and more climate-resilient food system.
Key partners already on board include local sustainability-focused brand SUPERSIMPLE and global plant-based platform abillion. More food service operators are expected to join ahead of the public campaign launch.
Speaking at the event, GPC President Vijay Iyengar described the campaign as a practical step toward solving global food system challenges. “We’re thrilled to bring this initiative to Singapore, coinciding with our annual convention, and highlighting pulses as climate-smart, nutritious, and accessible ingredients,” he said.
Pulses require significantly less water than other protein sources, enrich soil through nitrogen fixation, and provide shelf-stable food security, making them ideal for a country like Singapore that imports over 90% of its food. They also support dietary goals due to their high fibre, protein and micronutrient content.
