Young Filipino mathletes win 31 medals at SIMOC 2025 in Singapore, showcasing outstanding talent on the global stage.

SINGAPORE – A delegation of 35 Filipino students from Grades 1 to 9 proudly represented the Philippines at the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) held from 6 to 8 July 2025 at the Canadian International School. Accompanied by parents and teachers and led by Ms Rechilda P. Villame, President of Asian MathSci League, Inc. (AMSLI) Philippines, the students demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in both individual and team categories.

The Philippine team, the 9th largest contingent at this year’s competition, collectively secured an impressive 31 medals — 6 gold, 9 silver, and 16 bronze. Their achievements were recognised at an awards ceremony on 8 July at Singapore’s Star Theatre, attended by Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig, other foreign diplomats, and SIMOC guests. Ambassador Macaraig was joined by Second Secretary and Consul Renee Gayle M. Chua and Attaché Karla Vicencio-Luz of the Embassy’s Cultural and Filipino Community Relations Section.

The ceremony’s Guest of Honour, Ms Elysa Chen, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, shared an inspiring message, encouraging the students to embrace a mindset where “Head plus heart, plus hands, equals infinite possibilities.” Ambassador Macaraig commended the young mathletes, expressing hope that their passion for learning and problem-solving will contribute meaningfully to the Philippines and the world.

SIMOC 2025 saw record participation, with nearly 2,400 student finalists, 1,700 parents, and 200 educators from 37 countries. In 2024, the Philippines celebrated two overall wins, including Overall Champion for Grade 4 and Overall First Runner-Up for Grade 7, and this year’s team has upheld the nation’s reputation for excellence in mathematics.

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore extended warm congratulations to all students, teachers, and parents, applauding their dedication and bringing pride to the country through their success at this prestigious global competition.
