MAKKAH, Saudi Arabia – The Holy Kaaba underwent its annual washing ceremony on Thursday, July 10, 2025, a significant event reflecting its profound importance to Muslims worldwide. Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, performed the ritual on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The ceremony commenced with the meticulous preparation of a special blend. This mixture included 20 litres of Zamzam water, 80 ml of specialised oud oil, and 540 ml of Taif rose water, all carefully prepared by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.

During the washing stage, the interior walls of the Kaaba were gently rubbed with cloths pre-soaked in Zamzam water mixed with rose water. This step also involved the application of 11 litres of dedicated perfume for washing the Holy Kaaba, alongside 3 ml of musk.

The sacred event concluded with a perfuming and fumigation phase. This involved using 500 ml of Taif rose oil and 500 grams of fine oud incense, further enhancing the sanctity of the Holy Kaaba.

The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque affirmed the ceremony’s precision and care. They emphasised that this reflects the Kaaba’s elevated status and deep-rooted place in the hearts of Muslims globally. The Authority also highlighted that all materials undergo rigorous preparation to ensure the highest purity and sanctity standards.

The ceremony saw the participation of several officials, members of the Islamic diplomatic corps accredited to the Kingdom, and the esteemed custodians of the Kaaba, underscoring the event’s widespread significance.
