Thailand joined other UN Member States in endorsing the first permanent mechanism to strengthen international cybersecurity cooperation.

On 11 July 2025, Thailand, alongside fellow United Nations Member States, endorsed the establishment of the Global Mechanism on developments in the field of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) within the context of international security. The decision was finalised during the 11th Substantive Session of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) on Security of and in the Use of ICTs, held from 7 to 11 July 2025 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Global Mechanism will become the UN’s first permanent body dedicated to addressing cybersecurity challenges. Its objectives include strengthening States’ ICT security capacities, developing and implementing frameworks for responsible State behaviour in the digital sphere, and advancing global discussions on cyber threats, norms, and the application of international law in the use of ICTs.

Thailand has actively contributed to all OEWG meetings, represented by delegates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of National Security, the National Cyber Security Agency, and the Ministry of Defence.

The creation of the United Nations Global Mechanism will help Thailand, as a developing nation, to enhance its ability to prevent and address cybersecurity threats.
