
Dr Kao Kim Hourn outlines ASEAN’s strategic outlook to 2045 during keynote lecture hosted by the Centre for International Law
SINGAPORE — Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Kao Kim Hourn, today delivered the annual ASEAN Distinguished Lecture organised by the Centre for International Law (CIL) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The event was held at the Orchard Hotel and moderated by Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, a member of the CIL Governing Board.
In his lecture titled “ASEAN: A Bright Spot in a Darkening World,” Dr Kao highlighted ASEAN’s enduring role in promoting regional peace and stability amidst global uncertainties. He also emphasised ASEAN’s collective commitment to its forward-looking vision, encapsulated in the adoption of “ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future.”



This strategic document outlines ASEAN’s goals for the next two decades, reinforcing the organisation’s intention not only to adapt to evolving challenges but to actively shape the regional order. Dr Kao noted that the vision reflects ASEAN’s proactive and inclusive approach to regional cooperation.
The lecture attracted a wide range of participants, including government officials, diplomats, academics, and policy experts, demonstrating continued interest in ASEAN’s evolving role in regional and global affairs.
