The Embassy of Vietnam in Singapore marked its 80th National Day on 21 August 2025 with a cultural and diplomatic evening featuring cuisine, fashion, and renewed commitments to Vietnam–Singapore ties.
Singapore, 21 August 2025 — The Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Singapore hosted a reception at Shangri-La Singapore to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day. The celebration brought together senior government representatives, ambassadors, high commissioners, business leaders, and members of the Vietnamese community for an evening of cultural showcases and diplomatic goodwill.

The event was graced by Guest of Honour Mr Chan Chun Sing, Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister of Defence of Singapore, alongside H.E. Tran Phuoc Anh, Ambassador of Vietnam to Singapore. Guests were treated to a vibrant display of Vietnamese cuisine and an áo dài fashion show, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Vietnam.

In his address, Ambassador Tran reflected on Vietnam’s remarkable journey since its independence in 1945. He noted, “Over the past eight decades, Vietnam has risen from the hardship of war to become a peaceful, dynamic, and forward-looking nation. Thanks to the resilience of our people and the friendship of international partners, Vietnam today stands as a fast-growing economy of more than 100 million people.”
Looking ahead, he reaffirmed Vietnam’s ambitions, saying, “By 2030, we aim to become a modern, upper-middle-income country, and by 2045, a high-income, developed nation. In this journey, partnerships matter – and one of the most enduring is our relationship with Singapore.”

Minister Chan congratulated Vietnam on its milestone, describing its progress as “most remarkable, transforming into one of Asia’s most dynamic and resilient economies.” He praised bilateral cooperation, highlighting the success of the eral cooperation, highlighting the Vietnam–Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIPs), “The VSIP model reflects the strong complementarities between Singapore’s strengths in infrastructure planning and Vietnam’s vibrant economy and talented workforce. Together, we have attracted over US$23 billion in investments and created more than 320,000 jobs.”
He also pointed to future areas of collaboration, “We are expanding into new frontiers of cooperation, especially in the green economy. Projects such as renewable energy imports and carbon credit cooperation underscore how our partnership continues to evolve with global trends.”

The reception also paid tribute to generations of diplomats who strengthened bilateral ties, with the presence of seven former Vietnamese ambassadors to Singapore since the Embassy’s establishment in 1992. Guests joined in a toast celebrating the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Singapore, elevated earlier this year through high-level visits by both nations’ leaders.
As part of the celebration, Sun Media released the first-ever special edition dedicated to Vietnam, showcasing the country’s journey of resilience, innovation, and partnership with Singapore. This commemorative edition highlights Vietnam’s cultural richness, economic achievements, and the enduring friendship between the two nations.
