
Ambassadors from Japan, China, and South Korea joined regional scholars to discuss resilience, cooperation, and future prosperity.
Singapore, 23 September 2025 – The East Asian Institute (EAI) convened its annual conference under the theme “Managing a Rapidly Changing World: Perspectives from China, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia” at Conrad Singapore. The event gathered leading academics, professionals, and policymakers to share insights on regional stability and cooperation in the face of global uncertainties.


Among the distinguished speakers were H.E. Ishikawa Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, H.E. Cao Zhongming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Singapore, and H.E. Hong Jin-wook, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Singapore. Their participation underscored the significance of diplomatic engagement in shaping shared strategies for Asia’s future.

Ambassador Ishikawa reflected on Japan–Singapore relations, noting that next year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties and that Singapore’s upcoming ASEAN chairmanship presents a timely opportunity to strengthen collaboration. He emphasised the importance of reinforcing regional safety nets, enhancing cross-border initiatives in education and innovation, and supporting ASEAN-centric processes. He also highlighted the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) as a vital framework backed by Japan, China, and South Korea, paving the way for stronger trilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Hong focused on Korea’s perspectives of resilience, adaptability, and sustainability, noting that such principles are essential for long-term prosperity. He expressed appreciation to the East Asian Institute for fostering dialogue and stressed that today’s exchanges contribute directly to building peace and deeper partnerships in the region.

Ambassador Cao underlined China’s commitment to constructive regional engagement and highlighted the importance of practical cooperation to address shared challenges, particularly in economic integration, innovation, and multilateral dialogue platforms.
The conference reaffirmed that, despite global uncertainty, nations in East and Southeast Asia remain committed to collaboration, dialogue, and inclusive growth. The discussions highlighted education, sustainability, and the strengthening of multilateral frameworks as key priorities for the region’s future.
