Community hub celebrates milestone with symbolic ceremony, cultural performances, and family activities in tandem with Singapore’s 60th year of independence.
Singapore, 23 September 2025 — One Punggol, the integrated community hub in the North-East District, will mark its first anniversary on Sunday, 28 September 2025, with a day of reflection and festivity that coincides with Singapore’s 60th year of independence (SG60). The celebration will bring together residents, advisers, and partners in a programme that highlights heritage, creativity, and community spirit.
The event will be graced by Mr Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, alongside Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment and Senior Minister of State for Education. They will be joined by Ms Sun Xueling, Senior Minister of State for Transport and Senior Minister of State for National Development, and Ms Yeo Wan Ling, Member of Parliament for Punggol GRC. Their participation in the Time Capsule Ceremony will underscore the importance of Punggol’s growth within Singapore’s broader national story.

At the heart of the celebration is the symbolic Time Capsule, where guests will pen down reflections, wishes, and messages for the community. These will be sealed and preserved for unveiling at a future milestone, capturing today’s aspirations for tomorrow’s generations.
Complementing this is a heritage-inspired LEGO showcase that illustrates Punggol’s transformation. Two dioramas, created with a professional builder, depict contrasting eras: the kampong lifestyle of the past and the modern waterfront town of today. The installation aims to spark intergenerational conversations while honouring collective memory.

Residents will also enjoy a day of performances and activities at One Punggol’s plaza, ranging from Chinese opera, Malay folk dance, and Indian music to contemporary ukulele recitals and storytelling skits. Families can engage in interactive play zones, bouncy rides, old-school games, and a Snacks Redemption Trail offering local treats such as kacang puteh, popcorn, and candy floss.
Other highlights include the Finn Plush Redemption Walk, where participants complete activities across the hub, and a “Spend & Redeem” activity that allows shoppers to personalise tote bags with Singapore- and Punggol-themed stamps.

The anniversary is made possible through collaboration with community and institutional partners, including One Punggol Community Club, the National Heritage Board, the National Archives of Singapore, the Singapore Institute of Technology, and the Volunteer Special Constabulary. Together, they reflect the hub’s role as a nexus of partnership and belonging.
Since its opening in 2024, One Punggol has established itself as a hub for learning, play, and connection. Its anniversary, celebrated alongside Singapore’s diamond jubilee, reaffirms its dual role in preserving heritage and shaping future community life.
