KUALA LUMPUR, 27 October 2025 – Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan met with H.E. Mr Le Hoai Trung, the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, to reaffirm the close and growing relations between Singapore and Vietnam. The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to review the progress of bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international developments.

Dr Balakrishnan congratulated Minister Le on his appointment and expressed confidence that under his leadership, Singapore–Vietnam relations would continue to expand across multiple areas, including trade, investment, education, and sustainable development. Both Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership built on mutual trust, shared interests, and strong people-to-people ties.

During the discussion, the Ministers reviewed ongoing collaboration between both countries and expressed optimism ahead of the 2nd Singapore–Vietnam Annual Leaders’ Meeting, where Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will review the progress of the wide-ranging partnership. The meeting is expected to highlight key initiatives in green economy cooperation, digital innovation, and regional connectivity.

Dr Balakrishnan and Minister Le also exchanged views on key regional issues, including developments in ASEAN and efforts to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. Both reaffirmed their shared commitment to upholding ASEAN centrality and strengthening multilateral cooperation in addressing regional and global challenges.

The meeting reflected the continued momentum of Singapore–Vietnam relations, underpinned by strong political trust, economic cooperation, and a shared vision for a stable and prosperous region.
