The 16th Singapore–Vietnam Defence Policy Dialogue (DPD) took place in Da Nang, Vietnam earlier this morning, highlighting the continued commitment of both nations to deepen bilateral defence cooperation.

During the dialogue, Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for Defence and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defence signed the third edition of the Three-Year Work Plan, setting out key areas of collaboration to further strengthen defence ties. Both sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in Education and Training between the Ministry of Defence of Singapore and the Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam.

In addition, they witnessed the exchange of the revised Submarine Rescue Joint Standard Operating Procedures between the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN), marking an important step in enhancing interoperability and operational coordination in maritime safety and rescue operations.

The 16th DPD reaffirmed the warm and long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and Vietnam. Beyond established dialogues such as the DPD, both defence establishments maintain regular engagements through high-level visits, professional exchanges, mutual port calls, and cooperation in multilateral platforms such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM-Plus.

These regular interactions continue to strengthen mutual trust, deepen understanding, and foster enduring people-to-people ties between the defence communities of Singapore and Vietnam.
