Jerusalem, November 2025 – Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan paid a courtesy call on Israeli President Isaac Herzog during his visit to Israel this week. The two leaders last met in March 2024, and their discussion this time focused on developments in the Middle East and the prospects for achieving lasting peace, particularly in Gaza.

Dr Balakrishnan expressed Singapore’s hope that Israelis and Palestinians would one day be able to live side by side in peace and security, noting that such an outcome would profoundly reshape the region and contribute to global stability. He reaffirmed Singapore’s consistent position in support of a negotiated two-state solution that allows both peoples to coexist in mutual recognition and safety.

During his visit, Dr Balakrishnan also met with Speaker of the Knesset Amir Ohana, Leader of the Opposition Yair Lapid, and Members of the Knesset Dr Mansour Abbas, Avigdor Lieberman, and Benny Gantz. He appreciated the opportunity to hear their diverse perspectives on the situation in the region and Israel’s domestic outlook amid ongoing challenges.

Dr Balakrishnan welcomed the return of hostages to their families and conveyed Singapore’s concern for the humanitarian situation of Palestinian civilians in Gaza under the current fragile ceasefire. He underscored the need for all parties to honour the terms of the agreement and to work towards establishing a permanent ceasefire, which would allow reconstruction efforts in Gaza to begin.

Singapore continues to call for restraint, humanitarian access, and dialogue among all stakeholders, and stands ready to support international efforts aimed at achieving a durable and just peace in the Middle East.
