
ASEAN takes a major step in global climate diplomacy with the launch of its first Pavilion at COP30, underscoring the region’s united commitment to climate action and sustainable development.
Belém, Brazil, 11 November 2025 — ASEAN achieved a historic milestone with the inauguration of its first-ever Pavilion at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP30) in Belém, Brazil. The ASEAN Pavilion serves as a dedicated platform to showcase the region’s coordinated efforts and innovations in advancing climate resilience, sustainability, and regional cooperation for global climate action.
In his opening remarks, Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr Kao Kim Hourn highlighted that the Pavilion symbolises ASEAN’s deepening commitment to addressing climate change through collaboration and shared responsibility. He stressed that regional cooperation remains central to ASEAN’s long-term sustainability agenda and its contribution to global climate goals.

The ASEAN Working Group on Climate Change (AWGCC) also underscored ASEAN’s collective role in tackling the escalating climate crisis, reaffirming the region’s shared priorities in adaptation, mitigation, and green transition. In a show of continued partnership, the European Union’s Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) reiterated its strong support for ASEAN’s sustainability initiatives and its vision for a low-carbon future.
The ASEAN Pavilion at COP30 is supported by the ASEAN–EU–German Climate Action Programme, a project funded by the European Union (EU) and the Government of Germany, and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in partnership with the AWGCC and the ASEAN Secretariat. This initiative strengthens ASEAN’s engagement in global climate diplomacy while promoting dialogue among governments, industry leaders, and climate experts.
The launch of the ASEAN Pavilion marks a pivotal moment for the region, showcasing how collaboration and innovation can drive collective climate solutions. It also reflects ASEAN’s growing role as a unified voice in shaping a sustainable and resilient future for the Asia-Pacific and beyond.
