In his remarks, DSG Nara highlighted the key outcomes of the 46th and 47th ASEAN Summits, including the adoption of ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, which sets out the region’s long-term vision for unity, resilience, and prosperity. He also underscored the significance of Timor-Leste’s admission as ASEAN’s 11th Member State, marking an important milestone in the bloc’s integration.
The discussion examined the evolving geopolitical landscape and the need for ASEAN to reinforce its centrality while enhancing cooperation with external partners. DSG Nara emphasised that ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners, including the Republic of Korea, played an essential role in supporting the implementation of ASEAN’s long-term aspirations.
He further noted that practical collaboration could be strengthened through initiatives under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), particularly in areas such as connectivity, maritime cooperation, sustainable development, and economic integration. These efforts would help reinforce ASEAN’s strategic relevance and stability in an increasingly complex regional environment.
Participants exchanged reflections on the Summits and discussed expectations for ASEAN’s upcoming 2026 Chairmanship. The Roundtable reaffirmed the shared commitment to deepening partnerships that advance ASEAN’s vision for a peaceful, stable, and future-ready region.
