The Supreme Court of Singapore hosted the 12th Meeting of the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ) on 15 November, following a series of major judicial events held earlier in the week. The meeting brought together Chief Justices from ASEAN Member States to strengthen regional judicial collaboration and address shared legal challenges.

During the session, Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon was elected Chair of the CACJ, marking a key leadership transition for the regional body. Timor-Leste participated as an observer for the first time, following its accession to ASEAN in October 2025. Delegates discussed several cross-border issues, including the recognition and enforcement of foreign money judgments within ASEAN and progress on a Simplified Protocol to verify court orders.

The CACJ Meeting was held alongside the 2nd Standing Meeting of ASEAN Insolvency Judges, as well as the inaugural Meetings of ASEAN Insolvency and Intellectual Property Judges on 14 November. These gatherings aimed to deepen specialised cooperation, share judicial best practices, and enhance coordination among ASEAN courts.

The series of meetings underscored ASEAN’s ongoing commitment to strengthening legal harmonisation, promoting judicial efficiency, and supporting regional integration through a robust rule-of-law framework.
