
The bilateral army exercise strengthened operational cooperation and professional ties between the Singapore Army and the PLA Ground Force.
The Singapore Army and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Ground Force concluded the seventh edition of Exercise Cooperation following a closing ceremony held at Jurong Camp 1, Singapore, on 17 December 2025. The ceremony was co-officiated by Commander Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Brigadier-General Pang Lead Shuan and Deputy Commander of the PLA Southern Theatre Command Army, Major-General Chen Liang.
Conducted over 10 days, the exercise involved around 180 personnel from the Singapore Army’s 3rd Singapore Division and 1st Commando Battalion, as well as the PLA Southern Theatre Command Army’s 74th Army Group. The exercise focused on urban counter-terrorism operations, reflecting shared interests in addressing evolving security challenges.

Participants engaged in a range of activities including tactical drills, small-arms live firing, and cohesion-building activities, culminating in a field training exercise. These activities provided opportunities for both armies to enhance operational readiness while strengthening professional exchanges and people-to-people ties.
First inaugurated in 2009, Exercise Cooperation has served as the flagship bilateral army exercise between Singapore and China. The exercise series has contributed to building mutual trust, understanding, and confidence between the two armed forces, reinforcing the broader defence relationship between both countries.
