
On 1 January 2026, the Thai Embassy in Singapore observed the New Year with a merit-making alms-giving ceremony, bringing together Thai monks and local Buddhist devotees
On 1 January 2026, Mrs Chonthi Chanratchakool, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Royal Thai Embassy, along with embassy officials and members of Team Thailand, participated in a traditional alms-giving ceremony at Wat Ananda Metyaram. The event marked the beginning of the New Year and promoted Buddhist values of generosity and compassion.

The ceremony was presided over by Phra Panyathammavithet, Abbot of Wat Ananda Metyaram, as the head of the Sangha, and Phra Khru Sophon Puttikhun, Abbot of Wat Phutthakhun, serving as Chair of the Thai Sangha Assembly in Singapore. A total of 69 distinguished Thai monks from various Thai temples in Singapore received offerings from the participants.
The event attracted a large gathering of Thai and Singaporean Buddhist devotees, who joined in the merit-making activities to celebrate the New Year. The ceremony highlighted the close-knit Thai community in Singapore and its continued practice of cultural and religious traditions abroad.
