SINGAPORE HOSTED A SENIOR PACIFIC ISLANDS FORUM OFFICIAL TO STRENGTHEN ENGAGEMENT AND COOPERATION WITH PACIFIC PARTNERS.
SINGAPORE, 20 January 2026 — Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Policy and Programming), Mr Esala Nayasi, visited Singapore from 19 to 23 January 2026 under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ (MFA) Distinguished Visitors’ Programme (DVP).
During his visit in Singapore, Mr Nayasi called on Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and was hosted to lunch by Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mr Albert Chua. He also received briefings from several Singapore government agencies and institutions, including the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, the National Climate Change Secretariat, the Centre for Strategic Futures, the Civil Service College and the Centre for Climate Research Singapore. In addition, Mr Nayasi met representatives from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, and visited the Marina Barrage.
The visit reflected Singapore’s commitment to strengthening relations with the Pacific Islands Forum and Pacific Island States. As small island states, Singapore and Pacific countries share common challenges such as climate change, sustainable development and navigating an increasingly complex global environment. Singapore continues to support Pacific priorities through practical cooperation and capacity building, including as a Dialogue Partner of the Forum and through initiatives such as the SPARKS programme, which covers areas including climate resilience, cybersecurity and international law.
Launched in 2005, the MFA Distinguished Visitors’ Programme invites outstanding foreign leaders to Singapore to exchange views on issues of mutual interest and to foster deeper mutual understanding with global partners.
