Senior leaders from Singapore and Malaysia reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, with discussions spanning sustainable urban development and progress on the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone.
Singapore and Malaysia reinforced their close bilateral ties during a productive visit to Putrajaya, where Singapore held meetings with Hannah Yeoh, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Akmal Nasir, Economy Minister, and Amir Hamzah Azizan, Second Minister of Finance. The engagements reflected the breadth and depth of Singapore–Malaysia cooperation across multiple policy areas.
Discussions with Minister Yeoh focused on urban planning and sustainable development, underscoring the shared interest of both countries in building liveable and resilient cities. During the meeting, Singapore extended an invitation for Minister Yeoh to participate in the World Cities Summit in Singapore this June, marking its 10th edition and bringing together city leaders and experts to exchange practical solutions to urban challenges.

Economic cooperation featured prominently in talks with Minister Akmal, particularly the strong momentum behind the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). Both sides exchanged views on encouraging further investor interest and reviewed progress on the Masterplan and Investment Blueprint, highlighting the JS-SEZ’s role as a cornerstone of bilateral economic collaboration.
During the visit, Minister Akmal was welcomed as the new co-chair of the Johor–Singapore Joint Ministerial Committee (JSCMC). The transition follows substantive progress made under Minister Amir’s co-chairmanship, with plans to sustain this momentum and convene the inaugural JSCMC meeting in Singapore in the second half of 2026.
Singapore also expressed appreciation to Minister Amir for his leadership and close cooperation as co-chair of the Joint Ministerial Committee for Iskandar Malaysia, which laid a strong foundation for the next phase of collaboration under the JSCMC. The visit reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between Singapore and Malaysia, rooted in strong economic linkages and close people-to-people ties, as both countries look to further deepen cooperation in support of shared growth and robust bilateral relations.
