
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is in India for a five-day State Visit, where he attends the AI Impact Summit and holds key talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
At the invitation of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, is on a State Visit to India from February 18 to 22, 2026.
During his visit, President Lula participates in the 2nd AI Impact Summit from February 19 to 20. The summit focuses on developments in artificial intelligence and global cooperation in digital innovation.
On February 21, Prime Minister Modi meets President Lula in New Delhi for bilateral talks. The two leaders review the full range of India-Brazil relations. They also exchange views on regional and global issues, including cooperation in multilateral forums, global governance reforms, and matters concerning the Global South. Prime Minister Modi hosts a lunch in honour of the visiting President.
President Lula also meets Droupadi Murmu, President of India, who hosts a banquet in his honour. Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar call on the Brazilian President during the visit.
President Lula is accompanied by around 14 Ministers and a large delegation of leading Brazilian CEOs. The visiting ministers hold meetings with their Indian counterparts to discuss cooperation in various sectors. A Business Forum takes place during the visit, highlighting growing trade and commercial ties between the two countries.
This marks President Lula’s sixth visit to India. He first visits India in 2004 as the Guest of Honour at the Republic Day celebrations. He also visits India in September 2023 for the G20 Summit. Prime Minister Modi visits Brasilia in July 2025 on a State Visit, marking the first such visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 57 years. The two leaders also meet in Johannesburg during the G20 Summit in November 2025.
India and Brazil share a Strategic Partnership since 2006. Brazil remains India’s largest trading partner in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region. Cooperation between the two countries expands across trade, investment, defence, energy, agriculture, health, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, critical minerals, rare earth materials, science and technology, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, space, and people-to-people ties.
Both nations share common views on global issues such as UN reforms, climate change, and combating terrorism. The State Visit provides an opportunity for both sides to further strengthen the partnership and deepen cooperation at bilateral, regional, and global levels.
