Leaders reaffirm strong bilateral ties and commit to securing energy and essential supplies. New initiatives aim to boost resilience amid global economic and energy challenges.

Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong and Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese have reaffirmed the strong relationship between Singapore and Australia through a joint statement on economic resilience and essential supplies. The announcement was made in April 2026.

Both leaders highlighted the deep strategic trust between their countries under the Australia-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 2.0 (CSP 2.0), which sets out the next phase of cooperation focused on shared prosperity, security, and stability.

The discussions took place against the backdrop of the ongoing Middle East crisis, which has impacted global markets. The two Prime Ministers expressed support for a ceasefire and encouraged continued negotiations to end the conflict.

Singapore and Australia agreed to coordinate their responses to global challenges to strengthen economic resilience. A key focus is energy security, where both countries play important roles in each other’s supply chains. Singapore is a major supplier of refined petroleum products to Australia, while Australia is a key supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Singapore.

The leaders committed to ensuring the steady flow of essential goods, including petroleum products such as diesel and LNG. They also agreed to improve coordination on border and port processes, enhance transparency, and strengthen consultation to ensure timely movement of supplies during crises.

Both countries reaffirmed their support for a resilient, rules-based global trading system to maintain stability during periods of disruption. They also directed their ministers to conclude a legally binding protocol under the Singapore-Australia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA) focused on economic resilience and essential supplies.

In addition, the leaders welcomed the establishment of the Australia–Singapore Economic Resilience Dialogue, which will bring together senior officials to address challenges related to trade and supply chains. They also tasked ministers to convene the first Energy Ministerial Dialogue to further strengthen cooperation.

The joint statement reflects a shared commitment by Singapore and Australia to work closely together to safeguard energy security, maintain open supply chains, and support global economic stability.
