Indonesia and Singapore are deepening cooperation in energy and economic sectors while reaffirming their commitment to ASEAN unity and regional stability amid growing global geopolitical tensions.

Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore highlighted the growing partnership between Indonesia and Singapore in the fields of energy, sustainable investment, and regional cooperation.

Both countries have reaffirmed their shared commitment to maintaining ASEAN centrality and unity as global geopolitical tensions continue to affect energy resilience and international supply chains, particularly due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

Singapore views Indonesia as a major partner in renewable energy development, especially in solar energy, geothermal resources, and hydroelectric power. The collaboration is expected to combine Indonesia’s abundant natural energy resources with Singapore’s strengths in technology and infrastructure financing.

The partnership is also expected to support the acceleration of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), an integrated regional electricity network connecting ASEAN member states. The initiative is seen as an important step toward strengthening ASEAN cooperation and achieving the region’s net zero emission targets through renewable energy adoption.

Key areas of cooperation between the two countries include cross-border electricity trade, sustainable energy investment, agribusiness collaboration, and industrial technology development.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan stated that Indonesia holds enormous potential in the energy sector and described the country as a major force in renewable energy development.

According to Minister Balakrishnan, Indonesia’s economic growth and rich energy resources can complement Singapore’s role as a regional leader in technology and infrastructure financing, creating strong mutual benefits for both nations.

The cooperation reflects the continued strengthening of bilateral ties between Indonesia and Singapore while supporting wider regional goals under ASEAN cooperation frameworks.
