As part of the celebrations marking the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, Australian High Commissioner to Singapore H.E. Robyn Mudie participated in the panel discussion, Navigating a New Era: Insights from Women Leaders in Diplomacy. The event brought together prominent diplomatic voices to examine the evolving nature of statecraft, the growing influence of women in diplomacy, and their essential contributions to conflict prevention and resolution.

Hosted by the New Zealand High Commission in Singapore, the discussion also featured Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador-at-Large Professor Chan Heng Chee and former United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Rector Dr. Noeleen Heyzer. Drawing on their extensive experience in international affairs, the panellists shared perspectives on how diplomacy is adapting to an increasingly complex global environment while underscoring the value of diverse leadership in foreign policy.

During the discussion, High Commissioner Mudie emphasised that women’s participation strengthens diplomatic engagement by broadening representation and bringing a wider range of perspectives to international decision-making. She noted that when women are included in diplomatic conversations, diplomacy becomes more representative and better equipped to engage with diverse stakeholders. At the same time, she stressed that effective diplomacy depends on the complementary strengths of both women and men working together to address shared global challenges.

The panel served as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women in diplomacy while reinforcing the importance of inclusive leadership in international relations. Through open dialogue and the exchange of expertise, the event highlighted the continuing efforts to modernise diplomatic practice and encourage greater participation of women across the diplomatic profession.
