Discover one of Malaysia’s leading wildlife attractions at Zoo Negara, where more than 300 animal species, immersive exhibits, and conservation-focused programmes provide an engaging day out for visitors of all ages.
Just five kilometres from the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Zoo Negara has been one of Malaysia’s premier wildlife attractions since opening its gates on 14 November 1963. Managed by the Malaysian Zoological Society, the open-concept zoo spans more than 100 acres and is home to over 3,400 animals representing more than 300 species, making it the largest zoo in Malaysia.

Designed to provide spacious and naturalistic habitats, Zoo Negara allows visitors to observe animals in environments that closely resemble their natural surroundings while promoting awareness of wildlife conservation and biodiversity.

Among the zoo’s most popular attractions is the Giant Panda Conservation Centre, home to giant pandas Xing Xing and Liang Liang. Visitors can watch the pandas during feeding sessions while learning about international conservation efforts to protect this endangered species.

The zoo also features one of Malaysia’s largest freshwater aquarium exhibits, offering an insight into the country’s diverse river ecosystems and aquatic wildlife. Bird enthusiasts can explore the expansive Bird Aviary, which showcases an impressive collection of colourful species, including hornbills, peacocks, parrots and other native and exotic birds.

For those fascinated by reptiles, the Reptile House houses one of Southeast Asia’s most extensive reptile collections, featuring giant crocodiles, pythons and numerous snake and lizard species. The mammal exhibits present a diverse range of animals from across Asia and beyond, allowing visitors to discover more about the region’s remarkable wildlife.

Beyond its animal exhibits, Zoo Negara offers a variety of educational and interactive experiences throughout the day. Visitors can enjoy multi-animal presentations, conservation talks focusing on species such as tigers, orangutans and elephants, tram rides around the park, and animal feeding sessions designed especially for children and families.

The zoo also provides unique educational programmes for those seeking a deeper wildlife experience. Its weekend Camp Programme offers a two-day, one-night immersive stay, combining hands-on learning with conservation education in an informal outdoor setting. Additional activities organised by the Education Department include Night Walk Programmes, Wildlife Enrichment Programmes and educational animal presentations.

For aspiring conservationists, Zoo Negara welcomes volunteers aged 13 and above through its volunteer programme, providing participants with first-hand experience of animal care and zoo operations.
Visitors can also explore the Bee Museum, which highlights Malaysia’s honey production industry and features informative displays on bees and pollination. Dining options throughout the zoo include a variety of cafés and restaurants, allowing guests to relax between exhibits.
In addition to welcoming day visitors, Zoo Negara serves as a distinctive venue for private events, including birthday celebrations, corporate gatherings and weddings, with dedicated event spaces available within the zoo grounds.
Supporting Wildlife Through Animal Adoption

Zoo Negara’s Animal Adoption Programme invites members of the public to directly contribute to the care and welfare of the zoo’s animals. Donations help fund daily nutrition, enrichment activities and veterinary care across the zoo’s diverse collection.
Supporters may choose to adopt any animal within the zoo and receive an adoption certificate, with additional rewards available according to contribution tiers. The initiative offers individuals, families and organisations an opportunity to participate in wildlife conservation while supporting the zoo’s ongoing animal welfare efforts.
Accessible Admission for All Visitors

Zoo Negara offers admission rates for Malaysian citizens, international visitors and school groups, making it an accessible destination for families, tourists and educational institutions. Special concessions are available for children, senior citizens and organised school visits, encouraging educational experiences centred on wildlife and conservation.
Open daily, Zoo Negara continues to combine recreation, education and conservation, offering visitors the opportunity to discover wildlife from around the world while supporting efforts to protect endangered species for future generations.
