ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn welcomed a delegation from the South Asia Regional Parliamentary Forum (SARPF) for Climate, Energy and Environment to discuss strengthening regional collaboration on climate action, energy transition and sustainable development. The meeting underscored the importance of dialogue and parliamentary engagement in addressing shared environmental challenges.
Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, received a delegation from the South Asia Regional Parliamentary Forum (SARPF) for Climate, Energy and Environment at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat. The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of ASEAN and South Asian partners to enhance regional cooperation in tackling climate change and advancing sustainable development.
During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on key issues, including climate action, energy transition, climate finance, and broader sustainable development priorities. The dialogue reflected the growing recognition that regional partnerships are essential for addressing the interconnected challenges posed by climate change while supporting resilient and inclusive economic growth.
The meeting also explored opportunities to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and South Asia through enhanced dialogue, knowledge sharing and parliamentary engagement. By encouraging closer collaboration among policymakers and legislators, both regions aim to promote the exchange of best practices and innovative policy approaches that can accelerate climate resilience and sustainable development efforts.
Parliamentary cooperation was recognised as an important avenue for fostering stronger regional partnerships, enabling legislators to contribute to the development of effective climate and energy policies. Such engagement can also facilitate greater coordination in advancing low-carbon development, mobilising climate finance, and supporting the implementation of sustainability initiatives across both regions.
The meeting reaffirmed the value of continued ASEAN–South Asia engagement in addressing common environmental and development priorities. Through sustained dialogue and collaborative action, both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening regional partnerships that support a greener, more resilient and sustainable future.
