Kazakhstan’s national team delivered an impressive performance at the Asia International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) Final 2026 in Hanoi, securing 63 awards, including 21 silver and 36 bronze medals. RPMS student Ramina Ibraimova was crowned the overall champion and received the prestigious International Star award.
Kazakhstan’s national team achieved a strong result at the Asia International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) Final 2026, securing a total of 63 awards at the international competition in Hanoi, Vietnam. The delegation comprised 104 people, including 63 contestants, coaches, team leaders and parents.
Among the standout performers was Ramina Ibraimova, a student at the Republican Physics and Mathematics School (RPMS), who was crowned the overall champion. She received the International Star award, presented to the highest-scoring participant from each participating country. Another Kazakh contestant, Zhanat Abilgaliyev from the Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Almaty, earned a Gold Honor medal after ranking among the competition’s top finalists.
Overall, the Kazakh team won 21 silver medals, 36 bronze medals and four Merit Awards, alongside its top individual achievements. The results reflect the strong performance of Kazakhstan’s young mathematicians in a highly competitive international field.
The AIMO 2026 international final brought together nearly 1,500 young mathematicians from around the world. They were selected from more than 11,000 students representing 22 countries who participated in the 2025–2026 qualifying rounds. Under the competition’s award criteria, approximately 10 per cent of finalists receive gold medals, 20 per cent silver and 30 per cent bronze.
Kazakh participant Zhasmin Kainazarova highlighted the importance of persistence when tackling challenging problems, encouraging younger students not to leave difficult questions unanswered. The students also emphasised that consistent daily practice, rather than intensive last-minute preparation, was key to their success. The achievement follows Kazakhstan’s record performance at the International Linguistics Olympiad, where all four members of the national team won awards for the first time in the country’s history.
