On 14 August 2026, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and discussed the future direction of their partnership at the Third Meeting between the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) and the GCC Ambassadors’ Council in Jakarta.

Held at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat, the meeting reviewed progress in implementing the ASEAN-GCC Framework of Cooperation 2024–2028. The discussions also explored opportunities to further deepen collaboration across priority areas, reflecting the two regions’ continued efforts to build stronger and more comprehensive ties.

Looking ahead, the meeting discussed preparations for the upcoming ASEAN-GCC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM), which is expected to take place on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Week in September 2026. The meeting will provide an opportunity to review progress in ASEAN-GCC relations and consider the future direction of the partnership.

The representatives also looked towards the Third ASEAN-GCC Summit, scheduled to be convened in 2027. Discussions are expected to contribute to preparations for the Summit while supporting the continued development of ASEAN-GCC cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

In addition, the meeting provided a platform for ASEAN and GCC representatives to exchange views on regional and international developments, particularly issues of common interest and concern. The discussions underscored the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration between Southeast Asia and the Gulf region amid an evolving regional and global landscape.
