The Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA), in partnership with the Indian Muslim Social Service Association (IMSSA), held a Women’s Health Workshop at Masjid Darul Makmur on 16 August 2026. Bringing together participants from Masjid Darul Makmur, Masjid An-Nahdhah and Masjid Kassim, the session aimed to raise awareness of women’s health, promote preventive healthcare and help participants make informed decisions about their wellbeing.

The workshop marked the second programme under the SINDA-IMSSA partnership, following a Financial Literacy Workshop in April 2026. Supporting SINDA’s broader Let Her Shine! women’s empowerment efforts, the session was attended by around 100 participants, alongside Guest of Honour Dr. Hamid Razak, Member of Parliament for West Coast–Jurong West GRC and Executive Committee Member at SINDA, and SINDA Chief Executive Officer Mr. Anbarasu Rajendran. Dr. Hamid highlighted the importance of ensuring women have access to reliable health information and support throughout every stage of life.

Targeted primarily at Tamil-speaking Indian Muslim women aged 35 to 60, the workshop provided health education in a familiar and culturally sensitive community setting. The Women’s Health Talk was led by Dr. Vanaja Kalaichelvan, Senior Consultant, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at National University Hospital (NUH), whose areas of expertise include women’s health, pregnancy care, maternal-fetal medicine, diabetes in pregnancy and preventive women’s healthcare.

The session covered preventive health and early detection, women’s health across different life stages, and common conditions including diabetes, hypertension, breast health concerns and cervical health. Participants also explored health myths and misconceptions through culturally sensitive discussions. An interactive question-and-answer session with Dr. Vanaja gave attendees the opportunity to seek clarification on their concerns and receive evidence-based guidance.

The initiative reflects SINDA and IMSSA’s efforts to bring meaningful health conversations closer to the community while empowering women to take a more proactive role in their wellbeing. With future programmes planned under the Let Her Shine! initiative, the partnership will continue expanding its outreach and supporting women with accessible information and practical knowledge to make informed health decisions.
