Stronger Indonesia-Singapore ties could reinforce ASEAN’s economic resilience.
Indonesia and Singapore are strengthening their longstanding partnership as both countries pursue opportunities in investment, technology, energy and industrial development.
Indonesian Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani highlighted the relationship at the Singapore National Day Reception in Jakarta on August 19.
Minister Roeslani described Singapore as more than a neighbouring country, calling the two nations “kindred brethren” and highlighting their deep geographical, historical and cultural ties.
He also noted Singapore’s longstanding role as Indonesia’s largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI), with investments spanning financial services, human capital development and other sectors.
“Together, we can create a partnership that is not only mutually beneficial, but also contributes to ASEAN’s long-term competitiveness and resilience,” Minister Roeslani said.
He said global economic shifts around supply chain resilience, energy security, technological innovation and sustainable growth were creating new opportunities for cooperation.
“Indonesia offers vast opportunities in industrial development, downstream processing, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and the future AI economy,” Minister Roeslani said.
“Singapore brings world-class expertise in finance, technology, innovation, and international connectivity,” he added.
These areas give both countries scope to expand cooperation while responding to changes in the global economy.
Indonesia and Singapore will also prepare to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations next year. Minister Roeslani said the relationship could continue to grow through trust, mutual respect and a shared vision.
“With trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision for the future, our countries will continue to grow, innovate, and prosper together,” he said.
Minister Roeslani, who also serves as CEO of Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara Indonesia, concluded by congratulating Singapore on its 61st National Day.
“May Singapore continue to thrive. May the friendship between Indonesia and Singapore continue to flourish. And may our partnership continue to deliver greater prosperity for our peoples. Happy National Day, Singapore!” he said.
