The 2026 Model ASEAN–ROK Summit brought students together at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to deepen their understanding of ASEAN–Republic of Korea relations and regional cooperation.
Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs, H.E. Nararya S. Soeprapto, delivered the opening remarks at the 2026 Model ASEAN–ROK Summit, held at the ASEAN Secretariat/Headquarters. The event provided a platform for students to explore the dynamics of ASEAN–Republic of Korea (ROK) relations and gain a deeper understanding of regional cooperation.
Organised by the Chung Mong-Koo (CMK) School of ASEAN Studies as part of its 2026 ASEAN Day project, the Model ASEAN–ROK Summit was designed to introduce students to the workings of regional diplomacy and ASEAN-led cooperation. Through the model summit format, participants were able to engage with key issues shaping relations between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea.
In his opening remarks, DSG Nararya highlighted the collaboration as a reflection of the strength and enduring value of ASEAN–ROK cooperation. He noted that initiatives such as the Model ASEAN–ROK Summit help create meaningful opportunities for young people to develop their knowledge of regional affairs while engaging with the principles of dialogue, collaboration and community-building.
The DSG further emphasised the importance of providing platforms for young people to learn, lead and contribute meaningfully to the regional community. By encouraging students to take part in discussions on ASEAN–ROK relations, the initiative supports greater awareness of regional cooperation and nurtures the next generation of leaders.
The 2026 Model ASEAN–ROK Summit also underscored the role of educational initiatives in strengthening people-to-people links between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea. Through programmes that bring regional issues closer to students, ASEAN and its partners continue to encourage youth participation and foster a stronger sense of shared responsibility for the region’s future.
