Kazakhstan and China deepen cooperation in trade, connectivity, technology, education and culture
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said Kazakhstan remained committed to consistently strengthening its permanent comprehensive strategic partnership with China in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency. He noted that bilateral relations had reached an unprecedentedly high level, covering virtually all key areas of cooperation between the two countries.
President Tokayev highlighted the strong political dialogue between Kazakhstan and China, alongside the development of cooperation in trade and investment, energy, transport and logistics, industrial cooperation, agriculture, digitalisation, healthcare, science, education and culture.
Connectivity was identified as an important area of bilateral cooperation. Kazakhstan, described by President Tokayev as a natural bridge between East and West, has been working with China to develop modern transport and logistics infrastructure linking Eurasia. The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, together with the Belt and Road Initiative, new railway links, dry ports and logistics terminals, was highlighted as creating new opportunities for trade between Asia and Europe.
Technology and artificial intelligence were also identified as promising areas for the next stage of Kazakhstan–China cooperation. With 2026 declared the Year of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence in Kazakhstan, the country is seeking closer cooperation with China in the digital economy, smart manufacturing, e-commerce, research and human capital development.
President Tokayev also pointed to growing people-to-people ties between Kazakhstan and China. These have been supported by the mutual visa-free regime, expanding educational exchanges and the Kazakhstan–China Cross-Year of Culture in 2026.
The President noted that 2027 would be the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and China. The anniversary is expected to provide another opportunity to advance friendship, mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
