Vivian Balakrishnan visited Johor for polo tournament and official engagements with leaders.
Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan visited Johor, Malaysia, on 3 September 2026 at the invitation of the Regent of Johor, His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail, to attend the inaugural Johor Super Crown Polo Tournament. During the visit, Dr Balakrishnan also met Malaysian and Johor leaders and officiated the opening of the new chancery of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Johor Bahru.
In Johor, Dr Balakrishnan had an audience with the King of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim. He also met His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail, Regent of Johor, and Johor Menteri Besar YAB Dato’ Onn Hafiz bin Ghazi.
During the engagements, both sides reaffirmed the close and longstanding ties between Singapore and Johor. The meetings provided an opportunity for the Singapore and Johor sides to maintain close relations and discuss their longstanding links.
Dr Balakrishnan’s visit was conducted at the invitation of Tunku Ismail in connection with the inaugural Johor Super Crown Polo Tournament. The tournament provided the occasion for the Singapore Foreign Minister to visit Johor and engage with members of the Johor and Malaysian leadership.
Dr Balakrishnan also officiated the opening of the new chancery of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Johor Bahru. The new chancery reflects Singapore’s commitment to cooperation and relations with Johor, while enhancing the Consulate-General’s capacity to provide consular services to Singaporeans in Johor.
The Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Johor Bahru serves Singaporeans in Johor and supports Singapore’s engagement with the state. The opening of the new chancery therefore accompanied Dr Balakrishnan’s official engagements in Johor on 3 September.
The visit covered diplomatic and people-to-people ties between Singapore and Johor, as well as Singapore’s consular presence in Johor Bahru. It also included Dr Balakrishnan’s attendance at the Johor Super Crown Polo Tournament, following the invitation extended by Tunku Ismail.
