Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited Thailand from June 25 to 26, 2024. The visit focused on enhancing bilateral relations and discussing areas of mutual interest such as carbon credits, civil service cooperation, and emerging collaborations in the digital economy and regional energy connectivity.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan is on an official visit to Thailand from June 25 to 26, 2024. During his visit, Minister Balakrishnan engaged in several high-level meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Singapore and Thailand.

On June 25, Dr. Balakrishnan met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul for lunch. They discussed the increasing high-level exchanges of visits, which have contributed to stronger bilateral relations. A significant point of discussion was the collaboration on carbon credits, a venture that promises mutual benefits and supports the climate commitments of both nations.

Later that evening, Dr. Balakrishnan was hosted to dinner by Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa. The two ministers reviewed the multifaceted cooperation between Singapore and Thailand, emphasizing the importance of the Singapore–Thailand Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP). This program serves as a vital platform for exchanging ideas, fostering mutual understanding, and enhancing capabilities across both civil services. The ministers also jointly officiated the opening of the 14th Coordinating Meeting of the Singapore–Thailand Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP14) on June 26. Dr. Balakrishnan delivered the opening address at the event, which centered on the theme “Embarking on a Green Partnership in a Digitalised Era.”

On the morning of June 26, Minister Balakrishnan called on President of the Privy Council General Surayud Chulanont and Privy Councillor General Prayut Chan-o-cha. They discussed the longstanding relationship between Singapore and Thailand, including close defence cooperation and strong people-to-people ties. Emerging areas of collaboration, such as the digital economy and regional energy connectivity, were also key topics of their conversation.
