The National Gallery Singapore presents a solo exhibition on 103-year-old Lim Tze Peng, showcasing over 50 of his artworks, from October 2024 to March 2025.
From 25 October 2024 to 23 March 2025, the National Gallery Singapore will host Becoming Lim Tze Peng, a retrospective exhibition dedicated to Singapore’s oldest living and active artist, Lim Tze Peng. Held at Level 4 Gallery in the City Hall Wing, the exhibition will feature over 50 pieces of artwork, providing visitors with a rare opportunity to explore the artistic journey of the 103-year-old painter and calligrapher.
The exhibition highlights Lim’s vivid depictions of iconic Singaporean scenes, landscapes from his travels, and his development of ‘hu tu zi’ (糊涂字), or ‘muddled calligraphy’. Spanning almost eight decades, the artworks range from pieces created in 1946 to his most recent work from 2023. Curated from public art collections and Lim’s archives, the display will offer an in-depth view of his creative evolution and lasting impact on Singapore’s art scene.
Becoming Lim Tze Peng is part of the National Gallery’s SG Artist series, which celebrates the visionary talents who embody Singapore’s post-independence innovation and resilience. As the fourth installment of the series, this exhibition continues the Gallery’s efforts to shine a light on prominent local artists and their contributions to Singapore’s cultural landscape.
