Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean delivered the keynote address at the UWEEI Annual Dinner 2024, highlighting strategies for enhancing company competitiveness, improving worker employability, and preserving unity amid evolving industry challenges.

On 12 October 2024, Senior Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security, and Chairman of the UWEEI Council of Advisors, Teo Chee Hean, delivered the opening address at the UWEEI Annual Dinner 2024. The event, held in Singapore, brought together key stakeholders from the electronics and electrical industries, members of the NTUC Central Committee, the UWEEI Council of Advisors, and industry partners.

In his speech, Minister Teo reflected on two decades of service as Chairman of the UWEEI Council of Advisors. He outlined the three key strategies that have enabled Singapore’s electronics industry to remain globally competitive: enhancing company competitiveness, improving worker employability, and preserving unity within Singapore’s labour relations. Teo emphasised the need for companies and workers to continue adapting to global challenges, from economic shocks to technological changes, to secure Singapore’s position as a leading electronics hub.

The minister also stressed the importance of investing in sustainable technologies and fostering collaboration between the government, industry, and unions. He praised initiatives such as the Jobs Uplifting through Skills & Training (J.U.S.T.) programme and the recently announced SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme, both aimed at reskilling mid-career workers and preparing them for future industry demands. Teo concluded by calling for continued unity and collaboration across all sectors, ensuring that Singapore’s workers and industries thrive in the coming decades.
