From 1 November 2024, commuters can enjoy Singaporean poetry across MRT trains and stations, courtesy of the National Arts Council’s collaboration with SMRT, Stellar Ace, and Sing Lit Station
Singapore, 24 October 2024 – Beginning 1 November 2024, the MRT experience will be transformed with the launch of Poems on the MRT, an initiative by the National Arts Council in partnership with SMRT, Stellar Ace, and brought to life by Sing Lit Station. This unique campaign will showcase over 100 poems in English, Malay, Chinese, and Tamil on trains along the East-West, North-South, and Circle Lines, giving daily commuters a refreshing taste of Singapore’s literary heritage.
In addition to the poetry displays, commuters will also encounter videos created by local artists featuring some of Singapore’s most beloved poets. These videos will be screened at stations and on trains, adding another creative layer to the initiative. For literature enthusiasts, a pop-up library will be set up at Dhoby Ghaut station on 1 November, where a curated selection of Sing Lit titles will be available for browsing.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to bring local literature to the forefront of daily life, allowing Singaporeans to engage with homegrown voices as they travel across the island. Whether you’re catching a quick poem between stops or taking a deeper dive into the selections at the pop-up library, Poems on the MRT promises to make each journey a literary adventure.
