The Guest of Honour, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu joined diplomats, officials, and business leaders in celebrating the strong ties between Indonesia and Singapore.
Malaysia Celebrates 67th National Day and 61st Malaysia Day with Reception in Singapore
On 13 September 2024, the “Reception on the Occasion of the 67th National Day & 61st Malaysia Day” was hosted by His Excellency Dato’ Indera Dr. Azfar bin Mohamad Mustafar, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, and his spouse, Datin Indera Che Norhayati Soib. Held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Singapore, the event welcomed Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development and Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration, as the Guest of Honour. The celebration brought together members of the Malaysian community, diplomatic representatives, local dignitaries, and various prominent figures to honour Malaysia’s national milestones.
Egypt Celebrates 72nd National Day in Singapore
On 23 July 2024, the Egyptian Embassy in Singapore
hosted a reception at Egypt House to mark Egypt’s
72nd National Day. The event was graced by Desmond
Tan, Senior Minister of the Singapore Cabinet, as the
Guest of Honour. Attendees included members of
Parliament, ambassadors, members of the diplomatic
corps, heads of Singapore’s trade, investment, and
tourism organizations, as well as members of the
Egyptian community residing in Singapore.
30th Anniversary Celebration of Rwanda’s Liberation Day in Singapore
On 5 July 2024, around 300 people, including members of
the diplomatic community, business leaders, Rwandans, and
friends of Rwanda, gathered in Singapore to mark the 30th
anniversary of Liberation Day. The event celebrated Rwanda’s rebirth and highlighted its development trajectory since the Rwandan Patriotic Army’s victory over the genocidal
government three decades ago and was graced by the Senior
Parliamentary Secretary, Baey Yam Keng, as the Guest of
Honour, on behalf of the Singaporean government.
Saudi Arabia Celebrates 94th National Day with Grand Reception in Singapore
On 24 August 2024, the Embassy of Saudi Arabia celebrated the 94th National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a reception at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. The event was hosted by Saudi Ambassador H.E. Abdullah Mohammed A. Almadhi, with Ms. Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State for the Ministry of Digital Development and Information and the
Ministry of Health, representing the Singapore government as the Guest of Honour. In recent years, the relationship between Singapore and Saudi Arabia has continued to strengthen.
Uzbekistan Celebrates 33rd Independence Anniversary with Reception in Singapore
On 16 September 2024, the 33rd Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan was celebrated
with a reception hosted by H.E. Alisher Kayumov and Mrs. Nargiza Kayumov at the Shangri-La Hotel. The event was
attended by dignitaries, diplomats, and members of the
business and cultural communities. Mr. Desmond Tan, Senior Minister of State at the Prime Minister’s Office and Deputy Secretary-General of NTUC, represented the Singapore Government as the Guest of Honour, highlighting the strengthening ties between Uzbekistan and Singapore.
Mexican Embassy in Singapore Marks 214th Anniversary of Independence with Festive Celebration
On 13 September 2024, the Embassy of Mexico in Singapore commemorated the 214th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence with a vibrant celebration at the Sheraton Towers Singapore Hotel. The event was led by Ambassador Agustin Garcia Lopez Loaeza and was attended by the Guest of Honour, Ms. Gan Siow Huang, the Minister of State for Education and Manpower. The celebration welcomed representatives from the diplomatic corps, prominent figures from Singapore’s business sectors, and members of the resident Mexican community, creating a unique opportunity to honor Mexico’s rich history and cultural heritage.
Farewell and Welcome Reception Held by the Dean of Diplomatic Corps at Shangri-La Singapore
On 6 August 2024, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador Agustin Garcia-Lopez Loaeza, alongside Mdm Katya Anaya de Garcia- Lopez, held a distinguished reception at Shangri-La Singapore. The event was organised to honour the departing diplomats: H.E. Ms. Eugenia Barthelmess, Ambassador of Brazil; H.E. Mario Miranda Duarte, Ambassador of Portugal; and H.E. Eivind S. Homme, Royal Norwegian Embassy. These ambassadors have contributed significantly to strengthening diplomatic ties between their respective countries and Singapore.
The reception was also an opportunity to extend a warm welcome to the newly appointed diplomats. Among the newcomers were H.E. Nikesh Mehta, British High Commissioner to Singapore; H.E. Mdm Tamara Villanueva, Embassy of Chile; H.E. Mdm Rabia Shafiq, High Commission of Pakistan; and CDA Francisca Kemi Omayuli, Embassy of Nigeria. Their arrival marks the beginning of new opportunities for collaboration and friendship between their countries and Singapore.
