KBRI Singapore hosted a discussion reflecting on the progress and challenges in Indonesia-Singapore relations, with insights from experts and officials
On 11 December 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Singapore held a limited discussion to reflect on the state of Indonesia-Singapore relations as the year concluded. The event featured distinguished speakers, including Sidharto R. Suryodipuro, Director of ASEAN Cooperation from Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Tommy Koh, Ambassador-at-Large from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other prominent experts such as Prof. Leo Suryadinata, Dr. Nur Huda Ismail, Dr. Siwage Dharma Negara, and Sharon Seah from ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute.
The discussion covered a range of topics, highlighting the importance of expanding cooperation beyond political and economic ties to include cultural exchanges. Participants expressed hope that such interactions would foster closer relations between the two nations and their people. The event emphasised the potential of mutual understanding in building stronger bilateral ties in a rapidly evolving regional landscape.
Ambassador Suryo Pratomo, Indonesia’s envoy to Singapore, was present at the event, along with officials from KBRI Singapore and the Deputy Director for Southeast Asia I from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The session served as a platform for insightful dialogue, reinforcing the shared commitment of both countries to enhancing their relationship through multi-faceted cooperation.
The reflection underscored the role of cultural diplomacy as a bridge for deeper engagement and collaboration in addressing regional and global challenges. The outcomes of the discussion are expected to guide future initiatives in Indonesia-Singapore relations.
