On 6–7 February 2025, Her Excellency Mrs. Ureerat Chareontoh, Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, welcomed His Excellency Mr. Ekanat Promphan, Thailand’s Minister of Industry, along with a delegation from the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), during their visit to Singapore. The primary aim of the visit was to exchange information on industrial waste management, environmental protection, and air pollution control measures.

On 7 February, the Thai delegation met with Mr. Koh Poh Koon, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment. Discussions centered on policies related to industrial waste management, relevant legislation such as the Resource Sustainability Act, and potential avenues for ASEAN and bilateral cooperation to promote sustainable industrial development. Singapore’s Resource Sustainability Act, enacted in 2019, targets key waste streams, including electronic waste, to enhance recycling and reduce landfill usage.

Earlier, on 6 February, the delegation engaged with Mr. Wong Kang Jet, CEO of Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA), to explore collaboration and share best practices in environmental management. Key topics included addressing air pollution and PM2.5 particulate matter, managing industrial and electronic waste, industrial zoning, and enforcing waste management regulations at both national and regional levels. Singapore has implemented an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system for e-waste management since July 2021, mandating producers to manage the collection and proper treatment of electronic waste.

This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to sustainable industrial practices and environmental stewardship. By sharing knowledge and exploring collaborative opportunities, Thailand and Singapore aim to enhance their environmental policies and contribute to regional sustainability efforts.
