Minister Liu’s working visit marks 35 years of diplomatic relations and underscores the value of close cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
SINGAPORE — Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Liu Jianchao, concluded a working visit to Singapore from 23 to 24 July 2025.
During his visit, Minister Liu called on Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Lawrence Wong. Prime Minister Wong emphasised the significance of robust people-to-people interactions at all levels — including party-to-party exchanges — in deepening mutual understanding between Singapore and China. As 2025 marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation in traditional areas as well as in emerging sectors. They also agreed on the importance of working closely with like-minded partners to address shared regional challenges and advance the well-being of their citizens and the region.
On 23 July, Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Sim Ann hosted Minister Liu to dinner, joined by SMS for Law and Transport Murali Pillai. SMS Sim and Minister Liu discussed the importance of good governance and citizen engagement, particularly given the common challenges that Singapore and China face. They also had a wide-ranging discussion on regional and international developments.
