Minister Edwin Tong hosted an appreciation dinner in Shanghai last week for Shanghai law firms, the Shanghai Bar Association, Shanghai Justice Bureau, and other key partners of the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) to mark the achievements of the Singapore–Shanghai Lawyers Exchange Programme. The dinner recognised the support that allowed Singaporean lawyers to gain in-depth cross-border experiences and develop meaningful professional connections.

Ahead of the 6th Singapore–Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperation Council (SSCCC) meeting, Minister Tong also met participants of the one-week study visit by Singapore lawyers. The network has grown into a close-knit community of 60 members, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between Singapore and Shanghai.

The evening featured warm conversations and camaraderie, reflecting the trust and relationships built over the years. The spirit of partnership continued at the ISCA Forum, where the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), the Law Society of Singapore, the Shanghai Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Shanghai Bar Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance professional linkages.

The agreement established a roadmap for collaboration through a Professional Services Centre, regular knowledge-sharing sessions, and joint mission trips to support businesses entering each other’s markets. Both the dinner and the forum demonstrated how cross-border collaboration can strengthen communities and professional networks.

These people-to-people bonds remain central to the SSCCC’s objectives, aiming to deepen connections between governments, businesses, and communities in Singapore and Shanghai.
