A delegation led by the High Commissioner of South Africa to Singapore, H.E. Madiepetsane Charlotte Lobe, visited the manufacturing headquarters of Tee Yih Jia Food Manufacturing (TYJ) on 17 November 2025. Ten other Heads of Mission accredited to Singapore joined the visit, which included a meeting with TYJ’s Executive Chairman, Dr Sam Goi, followed by a tour of the company’s facility in Senoko, Woodlands.

The visit provided an opportunity for foreign representatives to gain insight into Singapore’s advanced food manufacturing capabilities. Dr Goi shared TYJ’s journey from its beginnings in 1969 as a small, semi-mechanised factory producing spring roll pastry, to its transformation in the 1980s through automation and large-scale production aimed at global markets. The company’s adoption of technology, coupled with strategic expansion, positioned it as one of Singapore’s most successful food manufacturers.

Today, TYJ is recognised as a leading producer of frozen foods, exporting more than 90 per cent of its Spring Home products to markets across Europe, North America, Africa, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific. Delegates were briefed on TYJ’s international footprint, which includes production facilities in Singapore, Malaysia, China, and the United States, supported by distribution networks spanning over 80 countries.

During the site tour, the delegation observed TYJ’s state-of-the-art operations, which prioritise food safety, hygiene, and quality assurance. The company’s portfolio now includes brands such as Happy Belly, Masterchef and Ryushobo, designed to meet rising global demand for convenient, nutritious, and innovative frozen food products.

The visit, organised by Dr Bill Foo, highlighted Singapore’s strength as a hub for advanced manufacturing and global food supply chains. Singapore officials welcomed the opportunity to deepen engagement with South Africa and other diplomatic partners, and expressed interest in continued dialogue on trade, investment, and the exchange of best practices in food production and innovation.
