Prime Minister Lawrence Wong began Singapore’s participation at the G20 Summit with a series of substantive discussions focused on advancing inclusive and sustainable global economic growth. He emphasised that the international system was under significant strain and required coordinated responses to safeguard stability and continued prosperity.
Speaking on the evolving global landscape, Mr Wong stressed that multilateral institutions, including the World Trade Organization (WTO), must be reformed to reflect present-day strategic realities. He noted that as geopolitical and economic shifts continue to accelerate, global rules must evolve to remain relevant and effective.

Mr Wong highlighted the crucial role of the G20 in driving these reform efforts. He said the grouping remained central in shaping an open, stable and fair global economic and financial architecture, and reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to working closely with international partners to strengthen cooperation.
Beyond the formal sessions, Mr Wong also met with several international leaders on the sidelines of the Summit. These exchanges provided opportunities to deepen bilateral ties, share perspectives on global challenges, and explore new areas of collaboration.
Singapore reaffirmed its position as a strong advocate for multilateralism, rule-based economic systems, and collective action—key principles that underpin its continued engagement at the G20 and its broader international partnerships.
