Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met leaders from the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations for a Teochew porridge lunch on 11 March 2026 to discuss ways to preserve and promote Singapore’s Chinese cultural heritage.
The meeting was held at the federation’s headquarters, where the Prime Minister and clan leaders exchanged ideas on strengthening cooperation between the government and community organisations.
During the gathering, Wong highlighted the important role that clan associations have played in Singapore for generations. These organisations have helped preserve Chinese traditions while also strengthening bonds of support and belonging within the community.
As Singapore continues to evolve, Wong noted that the work of clan associations remains highly relevant. Their efforts contribute to maintaining the cultural identity and heritage of Singapore’s Chinese community.

The Prime Minister also recalled presenting the federation with a commemorative plaque last year bearing the words “同行绘新,” which means “moving forward together to shape the future.” The plaque was given in recognition of the federation’s 40th anniversary.
Wong said the message continues to guide the partnership between the government and the federation. He added that Singapore will continue working closely with the organisation and other clan associations to ensure that Chinese culture and traditions remain vibrant for future generations.
The informal lunch discussion over traditional Teochew porridge provided an opportunity for leaders to share ideas on future initiatives that can strengthen cultural engagement within the community.
The meeting reflects Singapore’s ongoing commitment to preserving its multicultural heritage while fostering strong community partnerships.
