Leaders’ Retreat advances bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors.
President Prabowo Subianto welcomed Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to Istana Merdeka in Jakarta on Monday, July 6, for the annual Indonesia–Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, reaffirming the two neighbours’ commitment to deepening their strategic partnership.
According to Indonesia’s Presidential Secretariat, the meeting focused on advancing cooperation in trade, investment, energy, food security, the digital economy, defence, connectivity, and human capital development. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues, emphasizing ASEAN centrality, economic resilience, and peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.
A key outcome of the retreat was the signing of 26 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and other bilateral agreements. Indonesia’s Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the documents involve ministries, government agencies, and institutions from both countries, reflecting the broad scope of cooperation across economic, technological, and institutional sectors.
Prabowo and Wong also reviewed the implementation of commitments reached during previous Leaders’ Retreats, with discussions aimed at accelerating joint initiatives and identifying new opportunities for collaboration. The annual forum serves as the highest-level bilateral mechanism between Indonesia and Singapore, enabling both governments to monitor progress and set strategic priorities for the years ahead.
Singapore remains one of Indonesia’s largest sources of foreign direct investment and a key partner in Southeast Asia’s economic landscape. As regional challenges continue to evolve, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through practical cooperation that supports sustainable growth, encourages innovation, and delivers tangible benefits for businesses and communities in both countries.
The outcomes of this year’s Leaders’ Retreat underscore the enduring partnership between Indonesia and Singapore, highlighting a shared commitment to building a resilient, forward-looking relationship that contributes to regional prosperity and stability.
