
Minister Vivian Balakrishnan’s working visit to San Francisco focused on strengthening Singapore–US technology cooperation and engagement with the innovation ecosystem.
Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan is undertaking a working visit to San Francisco from 14 to 16 July 2026 to strengthen ties with the United States’ technology and innovation ecosystem. The visit includes engagements with government representatives, technology and venture capital leaders, and members of the Singaporean community in the Bay Area.
During the visit, Dr Balakrishnan is scheduled to meet Mayor of San Francisco Daniel Lurie to reinforce links between Singapore and San Francisco and explore opportunities for deeper collaboration. The discussions form part of Singapore’s broader efforts to strengthen partnerships with key global innovation hubs and expand bilateral cooperation.
Dr Balakrishnan will also meet business leaders from leading US technology companies and venture capital firms to exchange views on emerging technological developments, their geopolitical implications, and opportunities to deepen the longstanding technology and business partnership between Singapore and the United States. The engagements are expected to cover areas including innovation, digital transformation, investment, and the evolving global technology landscape.
In addition, the Foreign Minister will engage with Singaporeans working in the technology sector across San Francisco and the Bay Area, recognising the contributions of the overseas Singaporean community and exchanging perspectives on developments within one of the world’s leading centres for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Dr Balakrishnan is accompanied by officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs throughout the visit.
